Nobel Gig at Ivory Blacks!

It was with great pleasure that several weeks ago he has been announced as the surprise winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature.   According to Nobel, Dylan won his prize “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”. Bobby Takes Ireland by Storm

highland_radioEurope’s top Bob Dylan Tribute Act, Robert Harrison plays Dylan Music under the name of Bobby Does Dylan. He even captured the imagination of his hero Bob Dylan, after a clip of Bobby playing outside the Oran Mor was seen by the man himself. Dylan asked to see Robert and the two met up for a chat at Dylan’s hotel the next time he was in Glasgow in late 2013.

Robert, who also played at the Tall Ships Race in Greenock, has gone on from strength to strength since then. Last week he headlined the biggest DylanFest in Europe, Stuck Inside of Moville, in Donegal in Ireland. He spent two nights performing a collection of Bob Dylan classics to the sold out Casial Mara Hotel!  Robert was grateful to play after an amazing supporting act Al Diesan who had flown all the way from Italy to perform, “I’m very grateful for Al supporting me that night as my original support band were unable to play so Al who already had other commitments stepped in at the last minute.”

He took Ireland by storm. The festival appeared in all the main Irish newspapers and Robert appeared on Highland Radio, Ireland’s biggest local radio station, to talk about his show and the festival and to play one of Dylan’s best known songs, Blowin In The Wind.

Organiser, Gerry McLaughlin, himself originally from West Stewart St. in Greenock, said “I sent the radio station clips of all the main acts but it was Bobby they wanted to appear on the programme after seeing the same clip that Bob Dylan saw outside the Oran Mor. It was great publicity for the festival”.

Robert really captured the Irish imagination as he was talked about on national TV on the Seven O’Clock Show on TV3 last weekend – a highly popular show in Ireland. Stuck Inside of Moville was one of the Four Events of the Week on the show and the presenter told the story of Robert meeting his hero Bob Dylan.

The town of Moville had been booked out for weeks with all the accommodation taken for a radius of six miles or more. There was great eagerness among the international crowd to see Bobby Does Dylan on the Friday and Saturday nights.

32-year-old Tara Boehm, who had flown in from Philadelphia for the weekend, and who saw his show, said “Bobby Does Dylan was awesome. The DylanFest and Bobby are supercool. I’ll definitely be back next year and I’ll bring some friends as well”.

Organiser Gerry said, “The crowd were delighted with Bobby’s performances. One guy was in tears after the show. He said that he had seen Bob Dylan recently and preferred Bobby’s performance. It was a real international audience to see him”.

Said Robert “It was amazing – Bob Dylan acts in multiple venues over four days. I’ll definitely be back next year even better than this year”.

It was all arranged and in late 2013, Robert was taken to Bob Dylan’s hotel suite in Glasgow to meet him. “Is he here?” asked Robert of the guy showing him in, as there were quite a few people in the room, some of whom he recognised. “That’s him over there” Robert was told.

Bobby Travels to Ireland

dylan_black_and_white_walking_deadBobby Does Dylan, the man Bob Dylan himself demanded to see, traveled to Moville in Ireland last night to help plan this year’s DylanFest with the Caiseal Mara and other pub owners.

The meeting Drew in musicians from all over including the guys from Ireland’s top Dylan band, Blowins In The Wind who had traveled up from  Sligo hoping to get a gig for the DylanFest.

Bobby set up in the small function room in the Caiseal Mara and played his Dylan set there tonight as a warm up teaser for the coming event in August.

It’s a shame it was only a Monday night, but Robert is in big demand in Scotland and plays most weekends in his home country. He played Edinburgh at the weekend and will play again this year at the Caiseal Mara Hotel at Dylan Fest.

Bobby previously played top of the bill at the West End Festival in Oran Mor in Glasgow in front of 9,000 people.
